Cherokee Park bridge open; more improvements to come

Back to News & Updates

Bridge 2 in Cherokee Park is now open!

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet worked through a lot of challenges, including a change in the scope of the project, to push this project to completion.

Not only was the bridge repaired, but it was enhanced! New balustrades make the bridge visually more appropriate for an Olmsted designed park.

Park users will see a few more traffic changes in Cherokee Park in the coming weeks, but they will be less impactful than the bridge closure. Thanks to funding from the City of Louisville, the scenic loop will get safety improvements like new lane striping, signage and delineators. Most of the work will be done at night, but park users may see some lane closures.

MSD will be working on streambank restoration along Beargrass Road. A detour will be in place around Barrett Hill Road for approximately 3 months.

We are working to minimize any inconvenience to park users while these improvements are made!
