The long-awaited improvements to Iroquois Park’s scenic North Overlook are on the way, as EZ Construction, Inc. has begun construction at the site. EZ Construction staff began installing a chain-link fence across the road at the top of the hill leading to the overlook today. Erosion controls and tree protection fencing will be installed throughout the project site in preparation for asphalt demolition and grading.
The $1 million project is expected to be completed by spring 2016.
Due to safety concerns, the project site will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian access while construction is ongoing. This includes the North Overlook, the Overlook access road, the Sullivan Grove parking area and the Corbly Trail. The Uppill Road gate will be open and closed as normal this summer and fall, and will be closed as it typically is during the winter months.
The project is jointly funded by Olmsted Parks Conservancy and Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation. The scope includes a rustic stone seat wall with views of downtown Louisville and the Indiana Knobs, enhanced landscaping, improved access to trailheads and a wheelchair-accessible path to the North Overlook.
