New Tree grove installed at Seneca Park

Back to News & Updates

In 2025, we are celebrating all the ways in which parks are good for us.

Our urban park system is essential green infrastructure that helps clean the air, mitigate stormwater and cool the urban heat effect. The more trees, the better! Our Team for Healthy Parks prioritizes tree planting in the winter, when the soil stays moist, trees are less likely to experience transplant shock, there is reduced risk of pests and disease, and the tree can put energy into establishing a strong root system before leafing out.

The Wolford family has given a generous gift that will elevate our urban green spaces and ensure that the parks serve generations to come.

Thanks to the Wolfords’ generosity, we recently installed a new grove of trees in Seneca Park. This grove of 20 trees will provide shade for people enjoying games on the sports fields!

More improvements are coming to Seneca Park! If you donated to our “Spruce Up Seneca” project, you will see your generosity in action in the coming months as more trees and benches are installed. Happy New Year!
