LOUISVILLE, KY – October 18, 2021 – Olmsted Parks Conservancy is pleased to announce our newest Olmsted Park Partner, Southpaw – A Taco Bell Franchisee. Southpaw will serve as an Olmsted Park Partner for Elliott Park in the Russell neighborhood. Olmsted Park Partners are essential to the success of maintaining, beautifying, and activating Louisville’s 17 Olmsted Parks.
With a focus on connecting corporations and local businesses with the communities they serve, Olmsted Parks Conservancy launched the Olmsted Park Partner program in 2020. The program is an extension of the Conservancy’s existing volunteer program, which has over 1400 active volunteers.
Tuesday, October 19 the Elliott Park community, Olmsted Parks Conservancy and Southpaw will celebrate the park partnership with kids’ Free Play at 5 pm and special remarks at 6:30 pm. On the corner of 28th & Broadway, the newly remodeled Southpaw Taco Bell restaurant is scheduled to open its doors Monday, October 18.
Layla George, president and CEO of Olmsted Parks Conservancy said, “The Olmsted Park Partner program allows businesses to engage their employees in stewardship, support internal wellness initiatives, and foster deeper relationships with members of the community surrounding our Olmsted Parks through much needed programming. And since we are an independent non-profit organization, the program also helps to fund high-level maintenance in our Olmsted Parks. It’s really a ‘win-win-win’– for businesses, for Olmsted Parks Conservancy, and for all of Louisville.” George continued, “We are so grateful to Southpaw for stepping up to provide this extra support for Elliott Park.”
Olmsted Park Partners become official supporters of one of the 17 Olmsted Parks and are committed to:
- Keeping their chosen Olmsted Park beautiful and vibrant by participating in two volunteer events with company employees, guided by Olmsted Parks Conservancy Education and Volunteer Program Manager Matt Spalding.
- Participating in a private (or donating a public) wellness day in their Olmsted Park for the organization’s students or employees to encourage physical and mental health.
- Activating their Olmsted Park by hosting one public Family Field Day featuring Olmsted Parks Conservancy’s Free Play experience, games, kids’ activities and more.
Local companies have generously entered a one-year commitment to their chosen park in 2021:
- E-Z Construction is the Olmsted Park Partner for Tyler Park in the Highlands Neighborhood;
- Gresham Smith is the Olmsted Park Partner for Shelby Park;
- Kentucky Select Properties is the Olmsted Park Partner for Bingham Park in the Clifton Neighborhood;
- LG&E and KU is the Olmsted Park Partner for Shawnee Park;
- PNC is the Olmsted Park Partner for Algonquin Park and Iroquois Park;
