Parks are good for us: take care of your heart during Valentine season!
This Valentine season, take care of your heart! We love parks, and they love us …
Designed in 1923, Chickasaw Park is believed to be the only park in the country created by the Olmsted Firm for the Black community during segregation. The park is known as Muhammad Ali’s favorite park, and it features the picturesque Chickasaw Pond and river overlook. The park has been home to the West Louisville Tennis Club since its 1923 opening, and Althea Gibson, the first African American woman to win at Wimbledon, played a tournament at Chickasaw Park in the 1940s.
Olmsted Parks Conservancy recognizes Native American and Indigenous peoples as the longest serving stewards of the land that is now our park system. We strive to build more inclusive parks, and we commit to fostering diversity and respect both in nature and neighborhoods.
