Planting Trees in Shelby Park

Back to News & Updates

Olmsted Parks Conservancy received another boost to tree planting in the Olmsted Parks thanks to a grant from MSD’s Urban Reforestation Program.  This year, Shelby Park will benefit from this grant and will be much greener because of it! The grant will allow the Conservancy to plant 125 trees in the 17-acre park.

MSD, in partnership with the Kentucky Department of Environmental Protection and the United States Environmental Protection Agency created an Urban Reforestation Program to issue grants to plant on public and private land.  MSD hopes to plant 14,000 trees in the Louisville area by the year 2024 in order to reduce and eliminate sewer overflow. This is the second grant the Conservancy has received from MSD. Read about the 2012 grant.
