New Sprayground in Shawnee Park Opens for Play!
Helping celebrate this great event was Mayor Greg Fischer, Mike Heitz, Metro Parks Director, Mitch Barnes, President of DREAM Foundation, Bill Juckett, Board Chair of Olmsted Parks Conservancy, Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton and many other folks who had a hand in making this happen.
Olmsted Parks Conservancy in partnership with Metro Parks and The DREAM Foundation collaborated to raise funds to build a “play together” playground in Shawnee Park. The playground is modeled after one that was installed in Iroquois Park three years ago. It is designed so children of all abilities (including those in wheelchairs) may have full and independent use of the equipment. The sprayground area resembles a steamboat to accentuate the park’s location on the Ohio River. Named the Belle of Shawnee in honor of its Ohio River setting, embodies Frederick Law Olmsted’s vision that that all people, regardless of differences, could benefit from everything that parks offer.
